Installed Software on OSU Research Machines

This page is more for my benefit than anyone else's. But, rather than keep the information to myself I thought some you other grad students might find something in here useful -- if at least to find out which version of a particular piece of software is installed. This page contains ONLY software which I personally have installed.

I have made efforts, especially in the case of libraries, to ensure that the locations are uniform across platforms. If you note any discrepancies please let me know. As well, if an installed binary/library is outdated please inform me and I'll install the latest version. I do my best to keep up but no doubt some versions will slip by unnoticed.

I also try to strip executables before installation to conserve disk space.

Note also that if a piece of software is installed by support on a particular platform I won't, as a general rule, install a newer version of the software on that platform, even if the installed version is hideously outdated. I will install said software on platforms which do not have any versions installed (merlin is a good example of this; see below). As with all things, there are exceptions -- emacs 18.59 is just too old, for example.

This is a work in progress. I make no promises that this information is complete (and, in fact, it most likely isn't).

Notes

All include files are in /usr/local/include.exp except on merlin, where they are in /usr/local/lib.exp/include.exp (merlin doesn't have a /usr/local/include.exp).

All man files are located in /usr/local/man.exp unless otherwise noted. You should add this directory to your MANPATH environment variable if you want to have the man pages accessible.

Sources

This section lists the URLs of FTP sites where the sources to the above binaries and libraries can be found. Note that these may not be the official distribution sites; rather, they are the sites where I found the archives.
